Iron-on labels are a classic choice for labelling fabrics, including socks, woollens, towels and more. Each label measures 3 × 1.3 cm and is applied with an iron.

Permanent labelling with iron-on labels

Unlike stick-on labels, iron-on labels offer a more permanent way to label clothing and other fabrics. They may take a bit of practice at first, but once you get the hang of it, they’re quick and easy to apply! Iron-on labels are applied straight onto the garment. Just make sure the fabric can withstand the iron’s heat, and always use a sheet of parchment paper between the label and the iron. Take extra care with delicate fabrics and test a small, hidden area first.

How to apply iron-on labels

A few minutes with the iron and your child’s kit is labelled for life. Here’s how to make sure they stick the first time.

Before you start

Make sure the garment is clean and completely dry.
Use a flat, heat-resistant surface — an ironing board is ideal.
Best on cotton, polyester and blends. For delicate fabrics, test the heat on a hidden patch first.

Apply to clothes

Heat the iron to high (no steam).
Peel a label off the sheet and place it on a flat area of the garment.
Cover with a piece of parchment paper.
Press the iron down firmly for 10–15 seconds. Different irons run hotter or cooler — if it doesn’t take the first time, give it another go.
Let it cool for a couple of minutes before touching.
Done right, you shouldn’t be able to feel any raised edges, and the fabric weave should still show through.

Make them last

Wait 24 hours before the first wash.
Wash on a gentle cycle.
If an edge starts to lift, just iron over it again for a few seconds.

Tip: Don’t forget to label socks!

How are the iron-on labels applied?

Iron-on labels are applied using the heat of an iron. Use a high heat setting with no steam, and always place baking paper between the label and the iron. Press the iron down firmly for 10–15 seconds without moving it. Once the label has cooled, it should be bonded into the fabric.

Should I choose iron-on labels or stick-on labels?

Both can be useful, and the combo pack is a good option if you want labels for a range of items. If you are choosing one type, stick-on labels are ideal for clothes with synthetic care labels, as well as lunchboxes, bottles and other belongings. Iron-on labels are better for clothes without care labels, including socks, woollens and handmade knitted items.

Can I label homemade knitted items with iron-on labels?

Yes! Homemade garments can vary depending on the wool and stitch size, so test a small, hidden patch first. Always place parchment paper between the label and the iron to protect the garment.

Can I label socks?

Absolutely — iron-on labels are made for socks, woollens and anything without a care label. Apply them to the part with the least stretch so they're not pulled. Machine washable to 60°C and tumble dryer safe.

Can I take them off again?

Iron-on labels are designed to be permanent, so removal can be fiddly. Try applying steam over the label to soften the adhesive, then lift with tweezers. A coffee filter under the iron can absorb the adhesive, too. Adhesive remover, rubbing alcohol or stain remover may also help.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery via Royal Mail is free. Orders usually arrive within 2–4 working days, straight through your letterbox.

Are they made from safe materials?

Absolutely. Our labels are free from phthalates, BPA and PFAS. We also test our products regularly under REACH and Prop65 standards.

Can I change my order after placing it?

We start production right away, so there's only a small window for changes. If you have an account, log in to see whether changes are still possible. Once your label has been printed, we can't undo it.

Customer service was unhelpful. I accidentally placed a wrong order, so I placed another order immediately with the right item. So I had two orders. It was the weekend, and I contacted customer service first thing on Monday morning (9:30am, their opening time) to cancel the wrong order. They said the wrong order cannot be cancelled, however if I made a mistake with the name, I can send them an email with the correct name on the same day. This clearly shows the labels had not been printed by then. Still, this company would not let you cancel the wrong order. Now I am left with two orders, and too many labels. They didn’t care, they just want to take your money.

I loved these labels. I switched to a different label company last summer because I had a discount and went back to namelabels.com because they are so much better. I love these labels for equipment and clothes. The stay on and are more flexible than the other brand so my kids don't notice them.
